King Solar’s History

In 1982 Nick King started the business as KINGSUN Solar and Plumbing.  During this time there were many other solar business start-ups because of the Federal tax incentives for alternative energy.

When the tax credits expired in 1985 and through the next 25 years Nick spent a significant amount of his time servicing systems installed by companies that were no longer in business. Then in 2009 when the prices of Photovoltaics began to drop King Solar began to focus on electric generation and grid tied solar projects.

In the winter of 2011, Mark Horst joined the company and spent 2 years learning the trade and earning his NABCEP certified installer certification.  In the summer of 2013 Mark took over as leading partner in the company and in 2015 King Solar incorporated and became King Solar Inc.

With 30 plus years of experience as well as having a NABCEP certified installer on staff, King Solar continues to be the leading provider of alternative energy in south central Kansas.
